Wilkommen zu, welcome to Steins of Oktoberfest.com, this site is dedicated to all steins, or krugs in German, of Oktoberfest focusing on the annual Steins 1978 to present, as well as the historical anniversary Steins of Oktoberfest.
Oktoberfest is the world's largest folk festival held in Munich, Germany. It is the celebration of the royal marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen that happened on October 12, 1810. The people of Munich were invited to participate in the celebration, in which they enjoyed so much that the following year decided to celebrate the anniversary of the wedding, thus the beginning of the annual event. The field in which the celebration is held was re-named Theresienwiese in honor of Princess Therese.
Current Oktoberfest celebrations are now 16 days long starting the third Saturday in September and ending on the first weekend in October. The event was moved into September to take advantage of the nicer weather. Today's Oktoberfest is enjoyed by over 6 million people drinking almost 7 million liters of beer, and plenty of sausages whole chickens, pork knuckles, and pretzels.
